Thank you for continuing to follow our work and for making this blog the success that it is.
Today I have a special clip to share with you from one of our Family Friday's where my dad came in for a visit. In our classroom we welcome family members to stop by any time on Fridays and are so pleased when they do!
My Dad is an electrical and telecommunications engineer. On this particular visit, he brought with him a microphone connected to a speaker. I had told him that our students were beginning to use blocks to create a stage to perform on for an audience. They used tin cans as their microphones and we lit up their stage by shining the overhead projector onto them. He suggested that they were ready for the real thing!
When my Dad came in, he told the students that the microphone he brought in consisted of very fine plastic membranes, which are placed over a magnet. When you talk, the fine plastic layers vibrate and create electrical signals that go straight to the speaker and create sound. On that day we audio recorded some of our students' performances. They included songs, poems, chants, and sport's cheers.
In this clip you will see a few photographs captured during my dad's visit, as well as M.Y., R.A., and Z.A.'s audio recordings of their performances.
I cannot begin to express to you how proud I was to have my family show interest in the learning of our students. Thanks Dad! I would also like to extend a thank you to the wonderful families whose children we teach each day. We are so fortunate to have your support, encouragement, and even your donations of recycled items and pet rabbit food! Thank you and we hope that you are enjoying some well-deserved quality family time!
To end this post, I wanted to say that we really appreciated my Dad's visit and I will personally never forget how excited H.W. became when she saw him walk through our classroom doors! It was almost like she was having her Hollywood dream fulfilled!!! If only I had audio recorded that...
Until next time...
